Rules that catch foreigners

  • Passport requiredEVERY DMZ tour requires you to carry a valid passport (not a copy). South Korean ROK + UN clearance is mandatory for JSA.
  • Dress code (JSA only)For JSA tours: no torn jeans, no shorts above the knee, no military-pattern clothing, no flip-flops. Civilian-only tours have no dress code.
  • Age limitsJSA tours: 11+ years old. Civilian DMZ: no age limit but content may be heavy for under-8.
  • Photo rulesPhoto-OK at most DMZ stops. JSA: photos only when guide says — flash, drones, and pointing North forbidden.
  • JSA cancellationJSA tours cancel during inter-Korean tensions, joint military exercises, and severe weather. Operator refunds JSA-portion; civilian sites still visited.
  • MondaysAll civilian DMZ sites closed on Mondays. Tours don't run that day.
  • Visa types acceptedTourist (B-2), student (D-2/D-4), and most working visas eligible. Chinese passport holders need extra 7-day pre-approval — book early.
